Green BuildingCanyon Construction is a leader in sustainable building, having built our first sod roof, recycled content home in 1969. In 2001, we submitted the first recycling plan for a remodel project in Lafayette, CA, that used recycled timber, drywall, cabinets, siding, lighting and plumbing fixtures, and appliances. That project provided a substantial tax donation credit for our client. In recent years we have had over fifty employees go through the Build it Green, Green Building certification course. We also have several LEED accredited professionals on staff. We understand that attractive homes and environmentally conscious materials are not mutually exclusive. Our goal is simple: by producing durable, sustainable structures, we can help reduce the resource demand for the lifecycle of the structure. Smart planning during design and construction also helps reduce production waste. Many types of material are either salvaged or recycled from our jobsites. During construction we use materials such as High Volume Fly Ash Concrete, low-VOC finishes and paints, and cellulose insulation. We also promote the practice of sustainable building by hosting educational seminars and events. The Alameda County Waste Management Authority (ACWMA) recently tapped into our sustainable building knowledge for Green Building Guidelines, a handbook they produced for consumers and builders doing home remodeling. |
